Evaporative cooler or Swamp cooler as it is sometimes known.

An evaporative cooler is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems, which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by exploiting water’s large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapor. This can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building occupants hence the term Swamp Cooler.

How does a swamp cooler work?

Evaporative air conditioning uses evaporation to cool the air. In an evaporativecooler, such as BreezAir or EcoCooling, a pump circulates water from the reservoir on to a cooling pad, which in turn becomes very wet. A fan draws air from outside the unit through the moistened pad. This cooled air is then introduced to the space that requires cooling and air rite designs of these systems is where people get the real benefit.
