What is a spray booth?

A spray booth is a specially designed enclosure or partial enclosure used to control and extract the exposure of a volatile organic compound [voc] from spraying applications – there are many applications for spray booths, spraying paint and glue etc, the applications are very varied.

Typical extraction applications for spray booth and spray rooms –

  • Paint overspray
  • Adhesives spraying
  • Linishing glass fibre
  • Fumes and smoke removal
  • Isocyanates
  • Powder coating [only used on water wash spray booths, not dry filter spray booths]

What are the different types of spray booths and spray rooms?

Most commonly they come under two sections

  • dry filter
  • water wash

Both available as open-fronted, or fully enclosed spray rooms.
The basic difference between a booth and a room is that;

A booth is open fronted and is designed to capture the paint overspray or whatever they are spraying within the canopy of the booth. The canopy is the part of the booth you walk into before you get to the filters which capture the paint overspray.

A water wash spray booth works on the simple principle of the paint overspray is captured by a curtain of water which is plunged into a tank and then pumped back around again, forming a curtain of water continuously. Spray rooms simply mean they are fully enclosed units.
